The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken is a dystopian series about a girl named Ruby. When she was 10 years old, a disease broke out. It only affected children ages 7-14. It was nothing like anyone had seen before. The kids would just drop dead. The kids who didn’t die were shipped off to “rehabilitation camps.” It turns out that they developed abilities due to something being triggered in their brains because of the virus. Ruby is one of the kids who is taken to a rehabilitation camp, and her story goes on from there. This book is fantastic. The characters are so flushed out and amazing, and you can really picture everything going on as it’s happening. The imagery in this book is excellent, and the author does a great job of portraying everything that is happening and everything that Ruby is feeling to the reader. Honestly, if I tell you anymore, it might spoil it, but I definitely recommend reading if it you like sci-fi books. Also, if you like it, there are two other books in the series: Never Fade, and In the Afterlight. Both of these books are amazing and are as good, if not better, than the first.
